Lessons from Auschwitz
For the first time in 2008 pupils from Northern Ireland schools took part in the Lessons from Auschwitz project.
The project is funded by the Holocaust Educational Trust to facilitate students from every school in the UK to visit Auschwitz.
This project, for teachers and sixth-form students is run over three, non-consecutive days with the focus being a one day visit to the former extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Now in its ninth year, the Government-funded Lessons from Auschwitz project (LFA) is based on the premise that ‘hearing is not like seeing’. During this time nearly 5,000 sixth-form students have taken part in the project.
The LFA Project aims to increase knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust for young people and to clearly highlight what can happen if prejudice and racism become acceptable. The visits to the former Nazi extermination and concentration camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau are preceded and followed by half-day seminars in order to ensure an exceptional educational experience.
